Julian Knight, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Solihull and local campaigner has launched a petition to keep the front desk at Shirley police station open.
Julian is deeply alarmed at the plans by the Labour Police and Crime Commissioner to close down a swathe of front desks at police stations across the West Midlands and in particular the one in Shirley.
Julian said; “Shirley police station is a tremendous community resource and people really value being able to walk in and talk about their concerns with their local police face to face.
"Ever since the announcement of the closure I have been inundated with calls and emails from people in Shirley who want it to stay. Put simply, having a police station with a working front desk makes everyone in the community feel a bit safer. We have to find a solution to this."
Copies of the petition will be available to sign at the Anchor Charity Shop on Stratford Road Shirley, Conservative Office at 2a Manor Road and here. Julian plans to present a copy of the petition to the Labour Police and Crime Commissioner.
