Solihull’s MP, Julian Knight, is amplifying the call for fair and consistent school funding. With numerous concerns voiced by residents of Solihull & Shirley, Mr. Knight pushes for a strategic overhaul, emphasising quality education as an essential investment for future generations.

Drawing attention to the pivotal role of the Fair Funding 40 group, Knight says, "Their mission revolves around the efficient and just distribution of resources, ensuring that regions like Solihull receive the funds they rightly deserve. We must shift from indiscriminate spending to informed, judicious allocations."

Mr. Knight further remarked, "Our dedication to SEND children is dual-pronged. Morally, it’s our responsibility. Practically, early support can result in significant long-term savings, benefiting the entire community. The children of Solihull, particularly those with unique needs, deserve optimal opportunities."

The broader picture reveals an interconnected challenge. Alongside fair funding, the deepening mental health crisis in schools is a growing concern. A joint approach between health and education sectors is imperative, especially considering recent comments from Dame Rachel de Souza, the Children’s Commissioner for England. She highlighted the "normalisation" of the attendance crisis, linking it closely to the overarching mental health challenges.

Julian Knight asserts, "Until mental health assistance is integrated into our schools, merely focusing on attendance will exacerbate family stress. This is a deepening crisis requiring a united front."

In collaboration with the F40, Mr Knight remains committed to championing Solihull’s interests, vowing to consistently present these concerns to Ministers at the Department for Education.
