Julian Knight MP is looking forward to learning more about his family’s military pedigree at a special event planned by The Core Library on August 5th.
From 10am to 2pm library staff will be joined by military historians and members of local family history groups will be in hand in the Heritage Gallery to meet interested residents and help them get started with their researches.
Since being elected to the House of Commons last year, Julian has been a staunch defender of the Armed Forces, taking an especially firm stance against ‘tank-chasing’ lawyers who seek a profit by harassing troops through the courts.
Julian Knight said of the event:
“Britain has an extraordinary military history, and few institutions have been as central to our national life as the Armed Forces. After two World Wars and many other conflicts, there can’t be many of us who haven’t had family or ancestors serve our country in uniform.
“My own grandfather was a sharpshooter with the Parachute Regiment in the Second World War, fighting in northern France, Germany, and the Far East. Like many young men at the time he signed up when he was just 17 – the recruiting sergeant told him to come back and give another age!
“I’m very interested to see what new stories I might be able to uncover in my family tree, and I’d like to thank all the experts and volunteers who are so kindly donating their time to make this event possible.”
