The Government’s support for the bid and the opportunities it presents to implement reforms in football are likely to be considered. MPs are also examining preparations for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and whether, post-Tokyo 2020, the listed events regime needs modernising for the digital age.
This fourth session for the inquiry will also examine the Government’s plans for next year’s festival of creativity ‘Unboxed’ and the Platinum Jubilee, and how they might boost visits to the UK, following evidence that attracting major events tourism is a “highly competitive industry” between UK nations.
