Draft Online Safety Bill: Julian Knight MP to examine protections for online journalism

Julian Knight MP, alongside his DCMS Select Committee Colleagues will examine how the content of online journalism will be protected from requirements in the draft Bill to tackle harmful content and the difficulties in defining what does and does not count as journalistic content.

They will also consider evidence that misinformation and disinformation will not be adequately addressed by the Bill. The inquiry will hear from representatives of the independent press regulator IMPRESS and the NUJ. Concerns about the online abuse of journalists, particularly female journalists, will also be explored.

The second panel will consider questions raised in the second session of the inquiry on children’s access to online content as well as whether the Bill has been sufficiently future-proofed to meet new technological challenges.
