Last Friday Julian Knight MP joined the staff and residents of The Royal Star and Garter Homes, an organisation that provides outstanding nursing and therapeutic care to ex-service men and women, to celebrate their centenary.
With the average age of veterans at 88, it was an exciting opportunity for Julian to meet members of the ex-service community and hear fascinating accounts from their time spent serving the nation.
A guided tour of the home gave him the chance to see first-hand the valuable work carried out by staff and volunteers.
To celebrate their 100 years of caring for the nation’s military family, The Royal Star and Garter Homes have organised other events to encourage support from the wider community, such as a 1940’s Summer Ball and a Centenary Challenge.
Commenting on the event, Julian said:
“I am very pleased to have had this great opportunity to meet the residents and staff of the Royal Star and Garter and to share in their centenary celebrations.
“It was a unique chance to listen to the captivating stories shared by the veterans, particularly about the Second World War.
“I would also like to praise the devotion and commitment of all staff members and volunteers.”
