Julian Knight MP has welcomed the announcement that food aid charities in the Midlands have been awarded over £636,837 in government funding to help local people struggling to get food as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
As a result, over 418,000 meals have been provided for people in need across the region.
In total, 13 charities in the region have benefitted from the Government’s Food Charities Grant Fund, with grants ranging from £30,000 for small charities up to £100,000.
Since the fund was launched in May, 65 charities across England have been awarded more than £3.5 million. This equates to around 3.2 million meals overall.
Commenting on the scheme, Julian Knight said:
“The Chancellor promised to do ‘whatever it takes’ to help support the country through the pandemic, and it is very good to see that these charities and their essential work did not fall through the cracks.
“Over the past few months, I have been so inspired to see the many ways local residents have looked out for each other and the broader community during the pandemic. I know that these funds will have been put to very good use, and made a difference to thousands of people.”
