Julian Knight MP has welcomed the Government’s programme for the coming year, which was set out this morning in the Queen’s Speech.
Amongst the measures included were a commitment to give every UK household a fast broadband connexion with a guaranteed minimum speed of ten megabytes and a right to automatic compensation when service fails, a ban on unsolicited email spam, and new measures to protect our children on the internet.
He was also very pleased to see much-needed reforms to the national funding formula for schools included in Her Majesty’s address. Julian has worked hard with campaigners and concerned parents to close the funding gap between English schools, which could add up to thousands of pounds per year.
Commenting on the speech, Julian Knight said:
“The Government has set a clear course for the year ahead with some important, practical, and achievable goals: modernising our prisons and internet infrastructure, ending the injustice of imbalanced education funding, and stronger measures to protect children and crack down on extremists online.
“The State Opening of Parliament is a wonderful occasion, not least because it the only time the Queen visits Parliament. The Armed Forces put on another fantastic display, and I’m pleased that my staff were able to join the crowds on Her Majesty’s journey to Westminster.”
