Julian Knight MP.

Julian Knight MP is standing to be Chairman of the Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport Select Committee in the House of Commons.

Having served on the DCMS Committee for more than three years, and with almost two decades’ experience as a print and broadcast journalist, he wants to take the lead of its vital work holding the UK’s media, web, and sporting giants to account – in the last Parliament, Julian made headlines for his tough interrogation of Facebook and BBC executives over fake news and equal pay.

On top of his professional experience, Julian is also a keen cyclist and cricketer, and has published a successful book on cricket in the ‘For Dummies’ series. In Parliament he has been a high-profile champion for women in sport, and supported the setting up of the first-ever Women’s Parliamentary Cricket Team.

Commenting on the news, Julian Knight said:

“Whether it’s fake news, the rise of social media, representation in sport, or the future of the  BBC, the DCMS Committee explores issues of huge importance to our national life. Select committees play a vital role in helping the House of Commons hold the powerful to account.

“I have been proud to serve on the DCMS Committee these past three years. Alongside my professional background I think this makes me well-placed to lead its efforts in the new Parliament.”
