Julian Knight MP has urged independent retailers in Solihull not to miss out on the chance to be crowned the United Kingdom’s ‘Best Small Shop’.
A strong advocate for local businesses, Julian has previously run his own Best Local Shop competition as well as backing nationwide initiatives such as ‘Independents Day’. He now wants to make sure that Solihull business owners don’t miss out on national recognition.
The Best Small Shops Competition is open to any small shop operating in the UK. The competition is free to enter and all shops who enter will also be promoted to consumers through an online Indie Retail Directory.
A shortlist of 25 of the most impressive applications will be shortlisted by a panel made up of established representatives from the independent retail industry.
The judges will be looking for evidence of a small shops’ entrepreneurial spirit, ways that they have been innovative in their business and what they have done to have a lasting positive impact on their community.
Commenting on the news, Julian said:
“Small shops play an absolutely crucial role in shaping and protecting the distinct character of their communities. Here in Solihull we’re extremely lucky to have so many thriving independent businesses, and I hope that local entrepreneurs will not be shy about putting themselves forward for this award.”
*Shopkeepers can nominate their businesses until Monday 9th September via www.bestsmallshops.co.uk.
