Julian Knight MP has welcomed the news that full-time employment is at a record high as unemployment falls across every region.
Figures released today show that in the West Midlands, there are 2,791,968 people in work – meaning that, under the Conservatives, 316,329 more people have the security of a job.
In Solihull, the number of people who are claiming key out-of-work benefits has fallen by 703 since 2010 – an overall reduction of 42 per cent, meaning fewer people now need this support because they have the security of a job.
The figures show that wages have risen at their fastest pace in over a decade as the unemployment rate is at its lowest since 1975, at 3.9 per cent.
With employment in the UK at a record high – including a record number of women in work and a record number of full-time jobs – more people than ever before have the economic independence that a job brings and can reach their full potential.
Commenting on the news, Julian Knight said:
“These figures show that the British people’s patience and determination to fix the economy is being rewarded, with record numbers of people in work and wages rising. Even better, the benefits are being seen in every part of our United Kingdom.
“Behind every new job is somebody who has a new opportunity to learn skills, earn a living, and support themselves and their loved ones. Work really is life-changing, and I’m very proud to be part of a Government which has made it a top priority.”
