Julian Knight MP has joined Labour in condemning Green Councillor, Chris Williams’ DIY guide to trick and attract BNP voters into supporting the Greens, and is calling on the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party to distance themselves from the remarks.
Since the story broke, there has been cross-party and cross-community condemnation over the Green’s tactics.
Mr Ahmed, a resident of Lyndon Solihull said: "Green targeting of BNP voters is not acceptable in multicultural Solihull. Cllr Williams should resign for his divisive actions."
Commenting on Twitter, Nick Stephens, Chairman of the Solihull and Meriden Labour Party said: “All parties have a duty to take action if they have problems with any of their members acting in a racist manner and no party should pander to racism but stand up and challenge it.”
Following the latest developments, Julian Knight MP said: “It is with regret that I have come to the conclusion that Cllr Williams should step down.
“Solihull is a wonderful place to live, and has always been a multicultural and tolerant society. Whilst some sections of Solihull have had links with the BNP until the recent past, our community has worked hard to confront their ideology. What message does this send out to our BAME constituents?
“Rather than producing a guide to trick and attract the BNP, the Greens should be producing a guide to confronting them and their ideology.”
