I was very interested to learn last week that Transport for the West Midlands are bringing forward their plans to create a new, high-speed ‘Sprint’ bus route between Solihull, the city centre, and the airport.
This is part of an ambitious plan by Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, to have crucial parts of the new system in place for the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The buses will sport free wifi and numerous other features, and run on dedicated lanes.
Creating the route will entail the construction of new bus stations and other improvement works at several points along the route, including Lode Lane and Hobs Moat, so I would urge any resident likely to be affected to attend the public consultation in Mell Square on Saturday 15th September, 9am to 3pm.
Consultations such as these allow for local concerns to be addressed at the planning stage and help deliver services which most closely match the needs of the community – so it’s very important that we take part when the opportunity arises!
It has also been a nerve-wracking few weeks for young people across the country, so I would just like to congratulate all the pupils across Solihull who have received their GCSE or A Level results this summer.
I know it can be a nerve wracking experience – waiting for mine certainly was – but I know that if you worked hard you will have results you can be proud of. Wherever your path is taking you next, I would like to wish you the very best of luck.
Finally, I would just like to say how very proud I was to hear that Brian Holmes, a local councillor, had been selected to represent his branch of the Royal British Legion at the centenary ceremony of the Great War, held at the Menin Gate earlier this month.
Every year, our country comes together to reflect upon just how much we owe to the generations of men and women who have laid down their lives serving in the Armed Forces. I’m sure that Brian reflected the same spirit of thanks and remembrance that I see in our own local commemorations each November.
