Julian Knight MP met the next generation of technicians, engineers, and scientists when he attended the Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair earlier this month.
Described as “the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) for young people in the UK”, the fair combined theatre shows with exhibits, interactive workshops and careers information to show school pupils the opportunities available in these subjects.
Julian was particularly pleased to meet Ethan, Rogan, and Stuart, three boys from the Old Swinford Hospital school in Stourbridge who won the Young Engineer of the Year prize for building a hot-rod car – with disabled access!
Commenting on the day, Julian said:
“Since 2010, this Government has recognised that first-rate technical and scientific education is absolutely essential if Britain is to have the skilled workforce to prosper in the future.
“We have made a priority of supporting greater diversity in education, with enhanced apprenticeships and University Technical Colleges just some of the steps we have taken to make sure that the scientifically-minded enjoy the same opportunities we extend to their peers in academic subjects.
“It was really incredible seeing some of the work these young people could do, and the amazing opportunities out there for people interested in the sort of careers which will have a huge impact on the world they grow up in.”
