Local MP Julian Knight has stepped up his support for some of Solihull’s most important social institutions by joining one of Parliament’s oldest organised groups.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Non-Profit Making Private Members Clubs brings together MPs and peers to support Britain’s vast range of social clubs.
Organised by groups as diverse as working men’s associations, the British Legion, sporting and political societies, and the Armed Forces, such clubs are real community hubs – and can be seriously affected by the laws and regulations passed in Westminster.
Commenting on the news, Julian Knight said:
“Like pubs, private non-profit clubs can play a hugely important role in the community life of Britain’s towns and villages, as well as providing important social support networks to people with backgrounds in the Armed Forces.
“We’re very lucky in Solihull to have such a strong civic society, and I know first-hand the huge scale of the contribution volunteers and independent organisations make to our town.”
“I’m very pleased to join the APPG, and look forward to working with MPs and peers from all parties to make sure that Parliament is acutely aware of the needs of these vital, but often vulnerable, local institutions.”
