Local MP Julian Knight has been speaking up for Solihull in the House of Commons, pressing the Government on the future of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
Last Thursday he asked two questions to ministers about issues which will have major long-term impacts on the future of JLR: regulation of diesel cars, and Britain’s exit from the European Union.
Julian asked Steve Baker, a Brexit minister, that protecting JLR’s international supply chain would be “at the centre of our post-Brexit trading relationship”. He also asked Andrea Leadsom, the Leader of the House, for a debate in Parliament on the need for ‘clean diesel’ to play a full part in the medium-term future of the British car industry.
Commenting on the news, Julian Knight said:
“Millions of drivers thought they were doing the right thing when they switched to diesel at the urging of the previous government, and flagship British companies such as Jaguar Land Rover invested to meet that demand.
“It’s wrong that honest motorists and manufacturers should be punished for the unscrupulous actions of a single company, Volkswagen. Nor must we overlook the real contribution that clean diesel can make to our efforts to drive down emissions without harming economic growth.
“Solihull is one of Britain’s exporting towns, and I will continue to speak up for our employers and their workers in the House of Commons.”
