After new figures found that unemployment in Solihull has fallen yet further, Julian Knight MP has welcomed news that only one per cent of the working-age population in the town are unemployed, compared to a UK average of 2.5 per cent.
This places Solihull as one of the best constituencies in the UK for employment, ranking 104th out of the 650 Westminster seats.
Research from the House of Commons Library reveals that only 504 such individuals in the constituency are unemployed, of whom only 381 are claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance.
This represents a 68 per cent fall in unemployment since the Conservatives took office, with 1,574 unemployed in the constituency in May 2010. Across the West Midlands, the rate of unemployment has also fallen from 6.8 per cent to 2.9 per cent in the same period.
Commenting on the figures, Julian Knight said:
“These figures are very welcome news for Solihull, and a testament to our town’s work ethic and thriving economy. This Government is overseeing a jobs-led recovery, with Britain creating more new jobs than the rest of Europe combined, and Solihull is an example of how responsible economic management creates real prosperity in local communities.”
