Julian Knight MP is delighted that Women’s Twenty20 (‘T20’) will be making its Commonwealth Games debut at the Birmingham games in 2022.
This addition, alongside that of Para Table Tennis and beach volleyball, means that the 2022 Commonwealth Games will reportedly have the biggest female programme in the history of the games.
Julian is a proud champion of women’s cricket and lobbied hard for its inclusion in the Games. He has spoken in support of including Women’s T20 in the Commonwealth Games roster several times in the House of Commons, and met personally with the Minister for Sport to press he case directly.
He is also a member of the cross-party All-Party Parliamentary Group for the games.
Commenting on the news, Julian said:
“This is a very welcome step forward both for the Commonwealth Games and for Women’s Cricket. I’m proud that our first-rate female cricketers will have this amazing opportunity to represent their country and show the world what they can do.”
