Julian Knight, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Solihull, has quizzed hospital bosses about plans to shift urology services away from Solihull Hospital.
If the move goes ahead it could mean that people with painful and often socially awkward conditions could be forced to take public transport to Heartlands or Good Hope Hospital.
The shifting of urology is part of general reassessment of service provision across the Heart of England Trust.
Julian met with Professor Matthew Cooke, Emergency Medicine and Medical Manager at the Heart of England Foundation Trust, to discuss the changes and how they could affect patients. In particular, Julian was concerned about the future for urology services.
"The Trust clearly have a vision for service provision across their hospital sites, but I wanted to tell them of my practical concerns. How can someone with acute urology conditions be expected to travel by public transport to undergo treatment? An hour or more sat on a bus is pretty impossible if you have this condition."
Julian had very constructive talks with Professor Cooke.
"I have a feeling that the Heart of England Trust is finally in listening mode. If urology services are to move I would like to see something done about transport between the hospital sites and part of that could be free or heavily discounted hospital parking."
Julian has been running a successful campaign on hospital parking at Solihull and Heartlands hospitals and has already secured both a doubling of free waiting time for drivers and a halving of the cost of regular monthly permit charges.
