Julian Knight says:
"Since the group of travellers moved into Damson Park on Friday, I have been very impressed with the actions of the council and the police. Given what had happened to Chadwick’s End and Palmer’s Rough over the past few months, when I heard the news on Friday I was very concerned. I spoke immediately to the leader of the council, who assured me that the proper process would be followed and that the travellers would be moved on in a few days.
My friend and colleague Martin McCarthy, local councillor for the Elmdon ward, went over on Saturday morning to inspect the site and speak to residents, and a member of my team followed on Wednesday morning to keep tabs on the progress of the writ.
The length of the legal process is frustrating, but sadly this can’t be changed. The council have acted admirably quickly, obtaining and serving an injunction to move by midday on Tuesday. This was ignored, so on Wednesday morning the police served a Section 61 notice for quitting the park immediately. At the time of writing, all the travellers have now been moved on and the clean-up has begun."
