Today the Chancellor of the Exchequer has set out the Government's Plan for Growth and I wanted to inform you directly how this would benefit you and Solihull. This is a Budget that will cut taxes and deliver growth on the ground right here in Solihull.
The Budget has highlighted the Solihull HS2 Interchange as a potential Investment Zone. If secured, this would reduce the tax burdens upon businesses operating within the area and remove barriers and bureaucracy that constrains innovation. I will be working in Parliament, and with our Mayor Andy Street, to ensure we secure this vital package for Solihull.
Likewise, the Chancellorβs Statement has highlighted three transport infrastructure projects in Solihull that will be accelerated as quickly as possible to enable growth. These projects include:
Sprint Phase 2 (A34 and A45) β Creating bus priority corridors from the A45 into Birmingham City Centre, I know this will be a benefit to constituents who reside near Coventry Road.
Bus Priority Cross City Routes β Plans to improve reliability, reduce congestion, and reduce waiting times on our Midlands bus networks.
East Birmingham to Solihull connectivity corridor.
More broadly, this Budget will put more money into the pockets of Solihull residents by:
Cutting national insurance, abolishing the additional rate of income tax and freezing Alcohol duty.
Helping families by cutting energy bills for households by Β£1,400 this year.
VAT-free shopping for international tourists, helping Birmingham Airport and its employees.
