Julian Knight, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Solihull, has shown employment minister Esther McVey the new jobs and apprenticeships being created in Solihull, the economic powerhouse of the West Midlands . During a visit to Solihull college, Esther McVey and Julian met and spoke with apprentices and students about their studies and workplace experience.
The event focused on the role of women in the workforce and how young female entrepreneurs are making the most of Britain’s economic recovery.Participants included female business owners, students and those undertaking vocational training in the motor, beauty and airline industry.
Julian Knight said: “It was fantastic to see so many young, enterprising women ready to forge a fantastic career and in many cases keen to start their own businesses. Solihull is the most enterprising town in the West Midlands and as a result we are in the forefront of Britain’s strong economy recovery.”
Julian added that the creation of more apprentices would be one of his key goals if elected in May: “As MP for Solihull I will do everything in my power to try and help create apprenticeships for our young people. I would like to see a 1,000 new apprenticeships in our borough within the next 12 months. “
Esther McVey the employment minister applauded Julian’s campaign and praised Solihull’s apprentices, entrepreneurs and dynamic business culture saying “Employment and female employment are reaching record highs in the West Midlands which is proof that the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working. We are now seeing businesses feeling more confident and creating opportunities for local residents and it was a pleasure to meet some of the young budding entrepreneurs and future female leaders at Solihull College.”
