Julian Knight MP has written to the Chief Executive of Solihull Council to call on them to extend the deadline for consultation to the new Town Centre Cycleway, which is currently set for Friday 20th January.
Many Elmdon residents have come to Julian with cocnerns that the proposed roadworks on Damson Parkway will prove disruptive, and the new traffic calming measures are unsafe.
In addition they feel they have not had the opportunity to file official objections because they didn’t realise the proposed route ran on the residential side of the Parkway.
Commenting on their concerns, Julian said:
“The new cycleway offers the chance to make our town healthier and more accessible. As a keen cyclist myself I appreciate how safe routes can encourage people to get on their bike.
“But many residents clearly have reservations about the proposed modifications in Damson Parkway, and Solihull Council should extend the deadline in order to better allow them to make their views officially known.
“Launching this consultation on December 22nd, when most of the country was distracted by Christmas, will surely have delayed people’s responses and I hope more care will be taken over the timing in future.
“This sort of project works best when everybody is on board, and it’s surely right to hear the concerns of those people who’ll be directly affected. I hope the Council will take the time to find a way forward that works for everyone.”
