2014 is going to be a year when hopefully the economic recovery takes root. The Conservatives in government have had to make tough decisions in government in order to put the country back on the right track, cutting the deficit and ensuring that jobs and mortgages are protected.
We didn't listen to the siren calls of Labour to spend money which we could not afford and this means that we are well placed to grow the economy.
Labour said we would lose a million jobs but in fact by careful stewardship of the economy and keeping interest rates low we have seen over a million new jobs created, many of them for young people and a rebirth of apprenticeships.
At the same time crucial public services like the National Health Services have been protected and necessary education reforms carried out.
I am not going to pretend that the last few years haven't been tough - they were always going to be after Labour bust the economy - but we are finally seeing the rewards for our collective willingness to sacrifice.
