Julian Knight MP has welcomed the Chancellor’s decision to reform England’s unfair school funding system following a hard-fought campaign.
From 2017 money will be distributed to schools on the basis of pupil characteristics, rather than on the basis of old, political calculations which saw funding gaps of over £2000 between the best and worst-funded school districts.
This was a subject often raised by residents on the doorstep during the election, and Julian has been working hard with campaigns like F40 to secure meaningful change.
Commenting on the news, Julian said:
“I’ve been meeting ministers and banging on doors in Whitehall to win change that will give our children the best possible start in life, and I’m very proud that this Government is finally tackling these long-standing problems with our school funding model.
“I was worried that this might be kicked into the long grass, but George Osborne has met the challenge head on.
“Whilst this cast-iron commitment is very welcome, the work doesn’t stop here and I intend to continue speaking up on this until the day the Government delivers on its promises. On Tuesday I delivered a petition signed by hundreds of residents to Parliament to keep the pressure up.”
