Julian Knight MP has praised George Osborne for allocating an additional £500 million pounds to the transition to a new school funding system in his Budget last week.
This comes on top of the £300 million which had been set aside in the previous Parliament, and will boost the Government’s plans to end the unjust imbalance in per-pupil funding for English schools, which was as wide as £2,000 between some local authorities.
Julian has been working hard on this issue since before he was an MP after many concerned residents raised it with him on the doorstep, and has took the lead in a cross-party campaign headed by the pressure group F40.
In response to the news, Julian said:
“When the Government first acknowledged our concerns and announced that the inequities in English school funding would be addressed, I was clear that the campaign didn’t end here and promised to keep up the pressure on ministers in Whitehall.
“This announcement shows that we were right not to rest on our laurels. The additional funding will smooth the transition to a fairer system and is a welcome boost for our young people.”
