Julian Knight has welcomed news that unemployment in Solihull is still just half the national average.
According to new data from the House of Commons Library just 1.3 per cent of the working-age population in the constituency was claiming unemployment benefit, compared to a UK level of 2.6 per cent.
Total claimant numbers are falling month on month, with May recording a fall from April to just 610. In terms of youth unemployment there are just 125 claimants aged between 18 and 24.
Commenting on the data, Julian said:
“I’m very proud that our town continues to enjoy such an enviable employment record. Here’s in Solihull we’re lucky to have so many entrepreneurs and employers who can drive a strong local economy and make the most of our town’s talent.
“It’s not just about statistics: every fall in unemployment means more people able to stand on their own two feet and build for the future. As your MP I promise to continue to fight for the policies we need to create good, sustainable jobs.”
