Julian Knight MP has welcomed the Government’s Autumn Statement, which will benefit our community and keep our country safe.
During the election, residents on the doorstep consistently raised concerns about funding for local schools. Julian has been campaigning hard on the issue since being elected, and was very pleased to see the Chancellor commit to reforming England’s unfair funding mechanism by 2017.
Also welcome were the Government’s plans to double investment designed to encourage home ownership, providing support for first-time buyers to get mortgages and take their first step onto the housing ladder.
Despite extensive scaremongering by Labour there were no cuts to police budgets, despite the Government’s ongoing efforts to bring public spending under control and tackle the deficits. The aftermath of Paris highlights how important such security is, and such staunch support for the police shows that the Government has its priorities in order. So too does the commitment to honour our commitments to NATO and spend two per cent of our GDP on defence.
Remarking on the result, Julian said:
“This Government’s first priority is ensuring this country’s economic and national security: by controlling public spending and properly funding our police and security services. In his latest set of spending proposals the Chancellor has demonstrated his commitment to this strategy, and taken several sensible and practical steps which will keep British citizens safe.
“But it’s important not to lose sight of what it is we’re defending: the hope that young people in this country today will be able to enjoy a safe and prosperous future. That’s why I’m so proud that we’re taking vital steps to ensure our children get a properly funded education, and a fair shot at owning their home.”
