Julian Knight MP visited the Touchwood branch of John Lewis on Friday to talk about apprenticeships, the Touchwood development, the local economy, and opportunities for disabled people.
He met apprentices, trainee managers, and other members of the store team, and was given an opportunity to learn about the behind-the-scenes work at a major retailer.
Commenting on his visit, Julian said:
“Even having worked in retail, I never realised how much goes on behind the scenes to deliver the customer experience, and it was very interesting to get a glimpse behind the curtain in a large store.
“John Lewis is deeply rooted in our community, and famous for its partnership with its staff. Not every employee is so lucky, and I was pleased to be able to set out how this Government’s reforms to the living wage and personal allowance would improve the lives for retail staff across the country.
“I am very grateful to Julie Blake, the manageress, and the other partners for their very warm welcome.”
