Last week Julian Knight MP visited Solihull Welcome, which provides food, clothes and guidance to asylum seekers being processed at the Solihull Reporting Centre in Stanford House.
Meetings take place in the church hall at St Augustine’s Catholic Church on Herbert Road, and are staffed entirely by volunteers.
Commenting on the proposals, Julian said:
“Easter is a time for reflection. As we all enjoy the holiday and the opportunity to spend time with our friends and loved ones, we must always remember how lucky we are to be able to celebrate in a peaceful, modern country.
“Many are not so lucky, and across the world Christians are persecuted for daring to celebrate this holiday. Solihull’s churches have come together to turn concern for the less fortunate into positive, practical action.
“One of the most inspiring parts of being an MP is the range of inspiring volunteers you meet. Solihull Welcome gives asylum seekers who have fled terrible conditions the best possible introduction to our town, and I’m proud of the work they do.”
