Local MP Julian Knight has been named as one of the judges of the 2018 Personal Finance Teacher of the Year competition.

Set up in 2015, the competition aims to recognise and reward teachers who have made “an outstanding contribution” to his important subject. There are categories for primary and secondary teachers, and the deadline for applications is April 30th.

He joins Jeff Prestridge, personal finance editor of The Mail on Sunday, a representative of sponsor the Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust, and the editorial team of Moneywise, which is organising the award.

This is a topic very close to Julian’s heart: he currently serves as chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Financial Education for Young People and before entering the Commons worked as a personal finance journalist himself – including for Moneyweek!

Speaking after the announcement, Julian Knight said:

“A firm foundation in the financial basics can do young people a huge amount of good in later life, helping them to avoid problem debt, save for their dreams, and fulfil their potential. It’s so important that we make it a core part of a modern education.

“I’m very proud to be joining Moneywise to judge this important award, and very much looking forward to learning more about how the best teachers are helping their pupils learn about this important subject.”
