Julian Knight MP has called for improved safety notices to be installed for the safety equipment installed in Shirley Park, after a young boy was recently injured.
Conner Cleaver, nephew of local resident Warren Smith, trapped his finger in one of the mechanisms whilst playing on the equipment over the summer holidays.
The finger had to be surgically re-attached, although his family are much relieved to hear that the doctors acted in time to save it.
Julian Knight said:
“Solihull Council’s award-winning services and facilities, like those in Shirley Park, are great for local residents. Installing gym machines in parks is a great way to make such equipment more accessible to the community, and I welcome Solihull Council’s investment in residents’ health and wellbeing.
“However, it is also important that any lessons which can be learned and implemented from this tragic accident are explored to ensure that all residents can use these facilities safely and to try and avoid similar incidents in future.”
