Julian Knight MP has held our town very first “reverse jobs fair”, designed to help local businesses to meet with charities and other organisations and learn how to be more accessible employers to people with disabilities.
Solihull has a very strong local economy, and such a good employment rate that economists would describe it has having full employment!
However, speaking at the fair Julian pointed out that such figures never tell the full story, as there are always some people who have “fallen off the employment radar”.
He said that the fair was a great way to help local businesses become accessible and attractive places to work for disabled jobseekers, helping both sides to build the mutual confidence that is absolutely essential to getting people into work.
Julian added that the role of employers in the modern economy is much broader than it used to be, and praised the public spirit with which so many business took to these new challenges.
He also thanked Andrew Cole, of Touchwood, for donating the venue and Kenton Instore Ltd for donating the signs used at the fair.
Speaking after the event, Julian Knight said:
“It was fantastic to organise and host Solihull's first Disability Confident Event. The idea is to bring together employers, charities and other groups to ease the path into employment for people with disabilities.
“We have a great employment record in Solihull and I am really committed to improve the employment prospect for people with disabilities. I would like to thank Touchwood for use of their conference rooms and all those who attended and made such a positive day.”
