On Saturday 27th June, Julian Knight MP joined local residents Umesh Champaneri and Bhavna Dhorajia to deliver care packages and messages of thanks to local NHS and care workers.
The visits were organised as part of ‘Sewa Day’, an international day of kindness and charitable giving which involves thousands of people in countries across the world.
After stocking up on treats such as chocolate and energy bars, as well as fruit and other essentials, Julian and the team visited Solihull Hospital, as well as the Ardenlea Court, St Bernard’s, and St George’s care homes.
Whilst for safety reasons he couldn’t meet hospital staff face-to-face, Julian spoke personally to care workers as well as Claire and Patrick Byrne, the owners of St Bernard’s, about the challenges facing care homes during the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking on the day, Julian Knight said:
“I first got involved with Sewa when I opened their charity bike ride a few years ago, and I was delighted to be invited to take part in this year’s initiative.
“NHS and care staff are right on the front line against Covid-19, and it was great to have a chance to show them our appreciation and talk with them about the difficulties they face whilst keeping us all safe.”
