Julian Knight MP attended Our Lady of Compassion Roman Catholic Primary School on Friday to announce the winner of his Christmas card competition.
After carefully judging hundreds of entries, nine-year-old Lauren Elliott’s design saw off stiff competition to take the top prize, and she and her parents will be joining Julian for tea on the terrace at the House of Commons in the near future.
Julian also give Lauren a letter of commendation in front of her entire school at a special Assembly.
Remarking on the result, Julian said:
“I was very impressed by the huge number of contributions I received when I asked the children of Solihull for help designing my Christmas card this year. There were many excellent entries, and picking a winner was a real challenge.
“In the end, what I really liked about Lauren’s picture was that it combined a lovely image with an important message.
“The baubles illustrate all her favourite parts of Christmas, and the design shows how these things are rooted in her values: love, friendship, happiness, helpfulness, and sharing. Those are things we can all live by, and it’s especially important to keep them in our thoughts when times are hard and world seems a frightening place.
“Best of all, of course, it wishes everyone a very merry Christmas.”
