Julian Knight MP is one of the top five most active of the 74 new Conservative MPs in the House of Commons, according to research by The Independent newspaper.
Between speeches and questions he has made 190 contributions since being elected in May last new year. His speech total, at 136, is the third highest of any new Conservative MP. In contrast his predecessor made only 94 during their first nine months.
Commenting on the figures, Julian said:
“It’s a real privilege to be able to speak up for Solihull in Parliament, and I’m determined to take every opportunity to represent residents in the Chamber and elsewhere. Alongside my weekly surgeries in the constituency, a pro-active approach to Westminster helps me to deliver for local people.
“In the last few weeks I have spoken on a broad range of issues including police funding, housing, Birmingham Airport, investment in new cycling infrastructure, and ‘tank chasing’ lawyers who harass our servicemen and women.”
Councillor Rob Hulland, Chairman of Solihull Conservative Association, added:
“We’re very pleased to have such a hard-working, effective MP representing Solihull in the House of Commons. Julian is a champion of important local causes such as extortionate hospital parking fees, the regeneration of Shirley high street, and tearing down the PowerGen eyesore and replacing with new homes. He has also proven himself a staunch advocate of employers, and is a proud of our town’s excellent employment record.”
