Julian Knight MP has called on Solihull residents to follow the latest anti-fraud advice when doing their shopping over the internet.
With the Government advising people – especially older citizens and those with underlying health conditions – to do their shopping online if possible, he wants to make sure that scammers aren’t given a chance to exploit less tech-savvy shoppers.
He is therefore directing people to the latest advice from Action Fraud, and urging people to share it with friends and relatives too.
This includes helpful tips for both buyers and sellers, as well as contact information in the event that the worst happens.
Asked about the advice, Julian said:
“Scam artists prey on the isolated, the inexperienced, and the vulnerable – a group which sadly includes more people than ever during this period of lockdown. With more people now trying to shop online, especially those who may not have done it before, it is more important than ever that we do everything possible to protect ourselves and those we care about.
“Taking a few minutes to read and share the advice, and implement a few sensible precautions, could be the difference between getting the essentials you need and falling victim to fraud.
“As a former personal finance journalist, I seen first-hand the huge personal and social costs of this vicious crime and have taken a close interest in anti-fraud legislation since being elected to Parliament. But like lockdown, this only works if we all play our part.”
