Local MP Julian Knight has urged local voluntary groups to seize the opportunity to apply for grants from a new, multi-million pound funding pot being offered by the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Lottery players have contributed to a fund worth over £3,000,000, which will be disbursed to charities and community groups in grants of between £500 and £20,000 to support projects helping local people.
Applications are open until August 15, after which they will be closed until 2019. So far this year the People’s Postcode Lottery has supported over 350 projects ranging from sports clubs and choirs to carers and conservation.
A minimum of 32% from every People’s Postcode Lottery ticket goes directly to good causes. To date, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised over £320 million for more than 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
Commenting on the news, Julian Knight said:
“Solihull runs on its volunteer spirit, and I’ve seen first-hand how the right people can turn even a small cash boost into a big return for our community. This new fund from the People’s Postcode Lottery is a big opportunity for local charities and organisations, and I want to encourage as many as possible to apply before the 15th of August.”
