Local MP Julian Knight has welcomed the news that the import and export of services from the cultural, digital, and creative sectors have risen steadily since 2010.
New figures published today show that digital, creative and cultural businesses are exporting £46.4 billion worth of services worldwide, up from £28.8 billion in 2010 – an increase of over 60 per cent under the Conservatives. Exports from the digital sector alone are now worth £39.1 billion, up 70 per cent from £23 billion in 2010.
Commenting on the news, Julian Knight said:
“These figures illustrate just how important digital connectivity is to prosperity in the 21st Century, and I’m pleased that the Government has committed £1 billion to making sure that UK businesses have the infrastructure needed to quickly and reliably reach customers and markets all over the world.
“Solihull is one of Britain’s great exporting towns, and local employers know first-hand that a strong broadband connection is now just as important to maintaining regional growth as well-maintained roads. I will continue to press the Government to give our town, and the West Midlands, the digital investment we need.”
