Julian Knight, local NHS campaigner and Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Solihull, has visited military patients and staff at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham. Julian was a guest of the QE Hospital charity and during his visit he saw first hand the cutting edge treatment that returning injured military service personnel receive at QE Hospital. Julian was hugely impressed by the £4.2m Fisher House which provides our troops with a comfortable, normalised environment whilst they recover from their injuries. Patients are able to use Fisher House’s state of the art kitchen to cook meals and individual en-suite bedrooms to relax.
"Fortunately, we have come a long way as a society as to how we treat injured troops on their return. Fisher House and the military ward at QE Hospital are beacons of hope and good practice, they show loud and clear that we value our troops and care for not only their physical well being but their happiness and mental health. I can't speak highly enough of the staff and those who have raised the funds for this great facility."
Julian was also taken to the teenage cancer ward, where he was able to see the fantastic work of doctors and nurses as well as the comfortable relaxed surroundings - including a jukebox in the patients’ common room- available to patients and their families.
"I challenge anyone who doesn't appreciate the great work of our doctors and nurses to visit the teenage cancer ward at QE, it is a place of treatment but also of laughter and compassion. I was completely humbled by the visit and thanks to the QE Hospital charity for providing the opportunity."
