Julian Knight MP.

Solihull Mail

Earlier this week, the Prime Minister announced a raft of new measures intended to help protect all of us from the spread of COVID-19.

It is more important than ever that we all follow the official guidance, stay at home as much as possible, and try and ease the burden on our NHS. It’s absolutely vital that we all do everything we can to keep the volume of cases low enough that we have enough beds, ventilators, and medical staff for everyone who needs one.

The outpouring of support for the outstanding doctors, nurses, and paramedics working flat-out fight this epidemic has been wonderful to see. It really is humbling to see them putting themselves in harms way to care for the ill and keep the rest of us safe.

Nor should we forget everyone else supporting the effort, and in particular I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone working in Solihull’s pharmacies. These local businesses are right on the front line, providing in-person support those of us who need it most.

Time and again over the last few years, I have been struck by the strength of our town’s community spirit and volunteering tradition. From sports clubs to charities, Silhillians are never reluctant to give their time and energy to good causes.

If you or anyone you know are looking for ways to help out in the fight against coronavirus, please get in touch with my office – my team and I are going to put local volunteers in contact with opportunities to help.

With so many companies and Government bodies currently hard to reach, more of you than ever have been contacting my office and my team and I are working hard to stay on top of your queries. If this is your first time reaching out to me then please know that as your MP, I’m here to support you not just during national crises but all year round.

And speaking of volunteers, earlier this month the Solihull branch of Parkinson’s UK celebrated their thirty-year anniversary. This excellent group won the prestigious Queen’s Award only a few years ago and play an invaluable role in the community – my warmest congratulations to all involved.
