Coronavirus has caused a huge upheaval in many of our lives. Particularly things we once took for granted from going to the supermarket to spending time with our friends and families.
However, one area which has been particularly impacted, and which I have received a high amount of complaints about recently, is gaining access to local GPs. Getting proper health advice under the current circumstances is vital. But its not just issues with Coronavirus which people need assistance and advice on, its other health conditions and ordering vital medicines.
I know that many residents are having trouble with some GP surgeries across the constituency - from long telephone queues, to trouble getting a face-to-face appointment where you feel you have a need.
I will be meeting with the Chief Executive of Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group this week to put these concerns to him. I will also be requesting how we can resolve these issues, so that Solihull can have the access to the high-quality which it is used to.
I know how important it is that we can all access the GP services that we need, and how concerning it is especially for people with long term conditions. Rest assured; I will be putting across Solihull’s strength of feeling on this matter and will report back in due course.
Finally, I wanted to take this opportunity to pay tribute to my Senior Caseworker, Katy, who has recently moved on from my office to retrain at University.
Katy has been with me nearly 5 and a half years and joined the team immediately after my election. In that time, she has helped thousands of people across our town with their issues and has always gone above and beyond to try and help resolve them.
I wish her well for the future and know she will do many great things!
