Julian Knight, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Solihull and local NHS campaigner, has slammed plans to force up to 2,500 patients registered for GP services at Solihull Hospital Walk-In centre to give up their doctors.
Under plans for the merger of the Walk-In Centre and Accident and Emergency into an Urgent Care Centre up to 2,500 GP patients will face an uncertain future not knowing who their doctor is. There is no way that these individuals will be allowed to continue to be registered with a GP in the new Urgent Care Centre when it comes into being.
Julian is calling for urgent talks with NHS England to ensure the GP patients at the Walk In centre are treated fairly.
“At present, these people face being simply cut adrift by the NHS and that isn’t good enough. Although I understand the reasons for the change at the same time NHS England seem to not be taking any consideration for these patients.
“Many of these patients are vulnerable with chronic medical conditions and they have a relationship with their GP. To simply dump them on the street with no proper planning seems terribly wrong. We need a proper plan in place for these 2,500 patients or there is the potential for a medical crisis in Solihull.”
“Our number one priority must be the well-being of these 2,500 GP patients.”
The fate of the 2,500 GP patients currently registered at the Walk In Centre is not the responsibility of Solihull’s Care Commissioning Group but NHS England.
Since March Julian has campaigned tirelessly to keep walk in services at Solihull hospital with great success but vows that the job is not done until the fate of the 2,500 patients is settled properly.
