Julian Knight, Conservative parliamentary candidate, has upped his campaign to resolve parking problems around the Jaguar Land Rover Plant.
Julian has met with senior management at the firm in recent days and written to them suggesting some solutions to the parking chaos blighting the lives of local residents.
While recognising the great efforts JLR are making to tackle this problem of workers and suppliers parking in residential streets around the site, Julian urged the firm to make further strides.
In particular Julian would like the firm to commit to renewing its park and ride contract at Birmingham Airport due to expire in April next year. The proposed onsite multi storey car park is not set until 2015. This creates what Julian has called a "Parking danger zone - I know JLR is getting tough with contractors and staff using local roads but the message still isn't getting through. I suggest they commit further to more park and ride. I don't think this facility is being used widely enough."
"JLR is a good neighbour and we know what a great contribution they make to Solihull and its economy. However, for local residents the parking issue is really intolerable."
Julian has suggested to the firm that it issues contractors and staff with special daily tags when using the park and ride and that these must be presented at reception before admittance to the site. "This will ensure that only those who use the park and ride are admitted to the site and anyone else arriving for a days work will have to explain why they do not have the proper tag."
