Julian Knight MP, standing firmly on behalf of Solihull & Shirley, has sounded the alarm on the UK Government's controversial Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM) policy. Mr. Knight’s sharp criticism stems from the barrage of concerns expressed by his constituents, who are deeply worried about the rampant inflationary impacts of this ill-conceived policy.

The CHMM, a product of hasty policy-making, seeks to shift the nation towards low-carbon heating technologies. However, its stringent quotas on boiler manufacturers carry punitive fines and costly trading credits for any inability to meet set targets, creating a precarious situation.

Mr. Knight powerfully emphasizes the inherent flaws in CHMM's design. He believes that while its foundational goal might be in the public interest, its execution is profoundly misguided, particularly hurting residents of Solihull & Shirley. The looming threat of a 'boiler tax'—an unfair by-product of these fines—will only compound heating costs, throwing households into further financial distress.

In an unambiguous letter to the Secretary of State for Energy Security & Net Zero, Julian Knight left no stone unturned in conveying his absolute opposition to the CHMM. He pinpointed the policy's blatant oversight of its detrimental impact on the average Silhillian, which will undeniably fuel inflationary fires and stretch household budgets to breaking point.

Julian Knight MP said:

"While we rally behind a cleaner future, we must not tether our constituents to financial burdens they can't bear. The CHMM is a stark reminder that policy can sometimes lose sight of the people it's meant to serve. Urgent re-evaluation is not just necessary; it's imperative."

Mr Knight is demanding a comprehensive review of the CHMM. He insists on a complete governmental overhaul of this policy, championing approaches that genuinely align with the well-being and aspirations of the Borough.
