The DCMS Committee, which Julian Chairs, will question UK Sport about a £2.8 million Government commitment towards the cost of a feasibility study for the 2030 FIFA World Cup bid and how it will deliver value for money for the taxpayer. Also on the agenda, how the UK can maximise ‘soft power’ from hosting major cultural and sporting events.

Purpose of the session
In this third session of the inquiry, MPs will also consider the costs of securing broadcasting rights for BBC coverage of major sporting events and commercial competition to secure deals. The Committee may also ask questions on how UK Sport allocates returns from the National Lottery. This would inform its separate inquiry into the competition process to award the next licence for operating the National Lottery.
