Julian Knight, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Solihull, has led a protest at Centro's HQ as part of his ongoing campaign to protect vital bus services in Solihull.
Julian was joined by local campaigners and councillors as he upped the pressure on Centro bosses to persuade them to drop plans to kill off the vital number 73 bus services from Solihull to Heartlands Hospital and the Ring & Ride service.
Julian presented a letter to senior Centro management outlining the case for saving the Number 73 bus and the Ring & Ride.
Julian staged the protest on Monday to further highlight the plight of Solihull residents who he says "will become prisoners in their own homes if Centro ploughs ahead with these savage cuts."
Julian first became aware of Centro's plans at the end of last year and sprang into action organising petitions and the fight to stop the cuts. So far Julian has had hundreds of messages of support for his campaign and Centro has admitted that it has had such a huge response to its consultation that they have delayed the decision of the future of the Number 73 bus and the Ring & Ride to April.
"Centro has been rocked by the strength of feeling in Solihull over these cuts. They thought they could kill off the Number 73 bus and the Ring & Ride without a fight but, thanks to my supporters, they know the concerns of the people of Solihull are not to be taken lightly. They have decided to delay the decision on the future of these vital services until April but our protest shows that we are keeping up the pressure and we are not going away."
Julian added "If Centro gets away with these planned cuts it will blight the lives of the elderly in Solihull and sever a vital lifeline between our town and the only major hospital nearby, Heartlands."
"I have been heartened that my campaign has gathered support from all parts of the political spectrum. We are united as one in Solihull - these bus services must stay."
