This month, the West Midlands Combined Authority submitted its Levelling Up fund bid to the Government, a multi-million-pound fund designed to level up opportunities across the country. The WMCA has submitted an ambitious and innovative bid for £33 million to improve bus shelters across the West Midlands, including Solihull.
The plans will include repairing existing bus shelters, providing real-time passenger information boards and enhancing CCTV around bus shelters. The plans have been formed based on the existing work carried out by the Government last year when it published its "Bus Back Better" report.
Julian said "As we know, investment in local transport networks can revitalise local economies by boosting growth, improving connectivity, and making places healthier, greener, safer, and more attractive places to live and work. Almost all local journeys start and finish on local transport networks, so the investment can make a real, tangible difference to residents, businesses, and communities. Local transport projects can play a pivotal role in enhancing local places and efforts to level up".
Julian has submitted his formal letter of support to the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Communities and Local Government. Over the coming weeks, Julian will be working with Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands, to ensure that Solihull gets its fair share of this funding should it be awarded by Government.
