Julian says:
When it came to choosing the subject for my question to the Prime Minister, there was only one thing on my mind. I grew up on a Northern council estate, in a lone parent family. Education was my way up in the world: I was the first person in my family to make it to university. From then I moved to London, and after a string of low paid jobs got a break at the lowest rung in journalism. It’s thanks to education that I managed to forge a successful career in journalism. As your MP, I want to see the same opportunities offered to all children in Solihull.
Because of this, I was overjoyed to hear the news that a planned free school for Solihull has gone through to the next stage of the application process. With the best will in the world, there are some children that mainstream schools do not have the time or resources to cater for. To tackle this, three respected head teachers have applied to set up a free school especially for these children, to be called the Alternative Provision Academy.
As the Prime Minister said, this is enhancing education provision in our country and we should be proud of the people who set them up.
