Traveller Review Submission

Over the summer Solihull has been inundated with unprecedented levels of unauthorised incursions onto various pieces of land.

The police and local authority have been granted powers by Parliament in a number of Acts to deal with unauthorised traveller encampments – some of which allow the police to evict the travellers from the land at short notice and without the need for attending court.

It is for the Police and Local Authority to decide which powers they use at what stage.

Following from the unprecedented levels this summer, Solihull Borough Council is conducting a review into the way in which it responds to such incursions. Below you can find a copy of the document I submitted to the review which draws together suggestions and best practice from other areas of the country.
